In the spring of 2012, the executive board assigned a special task force to research a new philanthropic commitment for Denver Area Panhellenic. After exploring several worthy opportunities, it was determined that the Newborns in Need program at Denver Health Foundation was the best fit for DAP.

The Newborns in Need Program focuses on our community’s smallest, most vulnerable citizens. Each year, nearly 3,500 babies are delivered at Denver Health. Unfortunately, 90% of these children are born to families who live below the Federal poverty level, often forcing them to make heart-wrenching choices. No family should have to choose between buying items of necessity for their baby or paying their rent. But this is the dire situation thousands of new parents face each year in the greater Denver Metro area.

Through a series of baby showers, the Newborns in Need campaign collects thousands of new baby items and cash and distributes them to those in need, so their babies get the healthy start they deserve.

Every year, thousands of families receive “Warm Welcome” bags filled with essentials like blankets, diapers, clothing, and car seats.  Your donation to this program helps newborns go home in comfort and safety, with many of the supplies necessary for a great start on life.

There are many ways to help NIN. We can continue to give through a “clothing drive” style effort as was done in the past with NGA. We can also expand in many ways- from throwing baby showers to even hands-on volunteer sessions. We hope to help this organization for many years to come.

Please use this list of items requested by the NIN program, and contact your chapter’s DAP delegates or to donate. Note: In addition to baby items, cash donations are also welcome.
